I founded Historic La Jolla Walking Tours after a colorful career in Silicon Valley: from the dot com bust to the Cloud and AI rage. Upon escaping to La Jolla, I soon discovered a rich and fascinating history. I have not stopped studying it, using sources ranging from my octogenarian bocce companions’ stories, to the vast resources of the Riford library’s History Room, here in the village.
Initially I shared my discoveries with friends and their visiting guests. They encouraged me to offer this tour to one and all, and so here we are. I’m grateful to live here, and take great pride in presenting our community to visitors and locals alike.
I guarantee you’ll learn 5 things about La Jolla, even if you were born at the original Scripps Hospital at 464 Prospect St. I have delivered on that promise to at least 2 babies born there some time before 1964.
This tour offers an experience that only a true local can deliver. You will:
– learn the history of La Jolla
– view noteworthy architecture
– discover residents both famous and infamous
– witness the wildlife
– visit 2 fault lines
– enjoy the gorgeous coast
– collect tips and insights to maximize your visit
All this is punctuated with numerous historic images of the early days.
We cover approximately 3 leisurely miles and walk a total of 46 stairs (down ). We traverse the heart of the village, and the most iconic highlights of our coastal bluffs. There are some hills so if you have concerns or seek more detail feel free to contact us. The duration is approximately 2 hours.
